The 2024 college football season kicked off this Saturday in Dublin, Ireland, with the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, which has been renewed for the third consecutive year. The matchup featured the defending ACC champion Florida State Seminoles against the rising Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Expectations were high for the Seminoles to start their season on a positive note, and they delivered right from the beginning. On their first drive, Jaylin Lucas made a five-yard reception. In the fourth play of the drive, Caziah Holmes gained two yards to move past midfield. Lucas then rushed for another ten yards before being stopped at the Georgia Tech 38-yard line.

Following this, Roydell Williams had a ten-yard run on his second carry. FSU running back Lawrance Toafili made history by becoming the first player in major college football to score a touchdown this season. Toafili capped off a seven-play opening drive with a 28-yard touchdown run, showcasing Florida State’s depth at the running back position. Earlier in the drive, Williams had a 12-yard catch and an eight-yard run.
In his four seasons at Florida State, Toafili has accumulated 1,439 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 231 carries, averaging 6.2 yards per attempt.
